Jan Estep
Intuitive drawing, painting, & writing
Exhibited artist and published author, Jan Estep brings a unique mix of embodied and contemplative processes to artmaking and writing. Her experience as an arts professor, academic philosopher, arts writer, visual arts magazine editor, meditator, and yogi, informs an exciting approach to creativity, one that honors the integration of body, mind, heart, and spirit. While versed in a wide range of artistic media, her recent focus is on intuitive processes that explore drawing, painting, and creative writing. The goal is to cultivate freedom from judgment and expectation, unlearning the critical voices that inhibit and constrain creativity. A primary way to do that involves mindfulness as an integral precursor to creative expression. The workshops in Mancos draw on the semester-long Art and Yoga curriculum that she developed as a Professor in the Department of Art at the University of Minnesota.
