Workshop Overview


A full day of painting water in watercolor, whether streams, rivers, or lakes! Paint at least two watercolors of landscapes with water reflections of your choosing. Must have had Jan’s beginning watercolor class, or equivalent.

Workshop Outline:

  • Showing of Jan’s paintings with reflections in water
  • Review of materials, preferences, and care of brushes
  • How to take a photograph and make it your own composition
  • Review of compositional elements, center of interest, perspective, textures, color intensity
  • Demo of subject, emphasizing reflections in water
  • Time to paint with demonstrations in between
  • Final critique

$95.00 per person


  • sheet Arches watercolor paper 140# 22×30 or equivalent
  • watercolor brushes, variety (1 inch flat, small round for detail, 1/4 or 1/2 inch flat or angle)
  • palette plus colors anticipated needing for paintings
  • paper towels or cloths if preferred
  • water container
  • photographs of subject(s) to be painted
  • lunch (filtered water, tea, coffee provided)

About the Artist:
Southwest watercolor artist Jan Wright has lived in the Mancos area for nine years, having exhibited in Artisans of Mancos all that time.

She has produced over 25 one-woman exhibits throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Texas in her 44 years of being an exhibiting artist.
